Girls stick together! Kelly Rowland defended Beyoncé’s controversial Super Bowl 50 performance during a red carpet interview at the Delta Airlines Grammy party in Hollywood on Friday, February 12.
Rowland, 35, told Us Weekly that she thought her Destiny’s Child bandmate’s halftime appearance was “awesome.”
“I thought everybody’s interaction on stage was absolute perfection,” she said. “[Beyoncé] was absolutely amazing.”
Queen Bey, 34, took the Super Bowl stage on Sunday, February 7, for the live debut of her new single, “Formation,” during Coldplay’s headlining gig. The next day, social media users and former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani slammed her performance as an “attack” on police.
“I thought it was really outrageous that she used [the Super Bowl] as a platform to attack police officers, the people who protect her and protect us and keep us alive,” Giuliani, 71, explained on Fox & Friends on Monday, February 8.
Rowland, on the other hand, had nothing but kind words for the “Drunk in Love” singer’s bold political statement.
“I think that we live in a country where you have the freedom to say how you feel and talk,” she explained to Us. “And it’s really from a peaceful place. I think that they’re blowing it out of proportion.”
She added, “Giuliani should just shut up.”
Beyoncé has yet to comment on the highly publicized criticism.
