Kristen Bell, we’ll build a snowman with you whenever you want. As millions worldwide already know, the actress, 33, proves her singing and musical theater chops as the voice of Anna in Disney’s Frozen, which recently entered into the record books as the most successful animated film of all time (over $1 billion in global box office!).
Although her costar, Broadway vet Idina Menzel (as Anna’s older Ice Queen sis Elsa) sings the film’s definitive, Oscar-winning theme song — a ditty called “Let It Go” — fans also love Bell’s own ballad, “Do You Want to Build a Snowman.” And, in case there were any doubts about Bell’s bonafide talents, she sang the sweet song live during a February concert — flawlessly.
Making the performance of the pivotal track (about Anna and Elsa’s heartbreaking sisterly estrangement) even more impressive? Bell recreates the voices of Anna at three distinct ages (squeaky child, sassy tween and grief-stricken young adult); in the film version of the song, those two younger voices were recreated by two kid-performers.
“I’ve wanted to be a Disney princess since I was five years old!” Bell tells the crowd before the song, noting that she is “so proud of Anna . . . her ability to believe in people even when they stop believing themselves is very apparent” in the song.
Watch the performance now and get, yes, chills!
