Be careful what you wish for! After months of anticipation, the first trailer for the upcoming adaptation of Into the Woods is finally here—but it doesn’t feature any singing.
The debut look at the big-screen take on the acclaimed musical premiered on Thursday, July 31. It opens with sweeping views of magical lands and a quick peek at Little Red Riding Hood (played by Lilla Crawford).
“I wish,” the character utters—a phrase that is repeated throughout the trailer. Fans are then introduced to Jack (Daniel Huttlestone) and his beanstalk, Rapunzel (Mackenzie Mauzy), and Cinderella (Anna Kendrick).
Meryl Streep makes her grand entrance in the clip as The Witch, questioning The Baker (James Corden) and The Baker’s Wife (Emily Blunt) about their curse.
Into the Woods is an adaptation of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine‘s 1980s musical of the same name. The original stage production famously featured many songs, some of which will likely be included in the film.
Directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago), Into the Woods also stars Chris Pine, Johnny Depp, and Christine Baranski, among others.
Watch the trailer above and catch Into the Woods in theaters on Dec. 25, 2014.
