Give the girl some new love! Selena Gomez dropped the second single from her new album, Revival, on Wednesday, Sept. 9, and as expected, “Same Old Love” is a catchy tune.
“Ahhh you guys! You can now preorder #REVIVAL on @applemusic and get #SameOldLove instantly,” Gomez tweeted to her 32.8 million followers while teasing other songs from her upcoming album, which is due Oct. 9.
In her latest anthem, the former Disney star, 23, reiterates that she’s “sick of the same old love” in the chorus, and sings, “That s—, it tears me up.” She’s so passionate that she even swears in the song.
The artwork for the anthem features a very much adult and sophisticated Gomez, baring her leg in a gown as she poses in front of a brightly lit theater. Gomez’s latest single was preceded by “Good for You,” the singer’s sexy smash collaboration with A$AP Rocky.
In a recent interview with Ryan Seacrest, the songstress discussed what inspired her latest album — and naturally, some of it involved her ex Justin Bieber.
“I’m not the best singer in the world, but I know how to translate emotion,” Gomez told Seacrest in June. “I’m becoming a young woman and I’m comfortable with my sensuality…[I’m] really excited about the title of the album and the rebirth of Selena. It’s just beautiful. It’s my chance to just feel like an independent artist and I worked really hard on it…It’s all about my journey.”
In a separate interview with the UK’s Sunday Times last month, she reflected on their on-again, off-again relationship, which ended in late 2014. “It’s difficult for people to separate us,” Gomez said of the Jelena moniker. “The Internet wants to freeze this moment in time and constantly repeat it.”
Like his ex, “What Do You Mean” crooner Bieber has also said his latest album was influenced by his past with Gomez. “I haven’t been in a relationship for a while now. I’m chilling and just hanging out. Just being by myself,” the 21-year-old pop sensation told Australia’s Kyle and Jackie O Show on Tuesday, Sept. 8. “I am a relationship type of guy, I love to be in love and I love cuddling and I love all of that kind of stuff but I got my heart broken and so I’m just going to let that heal up.”
