Well cast, if you ask Us Weekly! After playing bit parts in films like The Benchwarmers and Grown Ups 2, Patrick Schwarzenegger is finally stepping into the leading man spotlight. Deadline reports that Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver's eldest son, 21, will romance Bella Thorne in the young adult love story Midnight Sun.
Based on a 2006 Japanese film, Midnight Sun follows sheltered 17-year-old Katie (Thorne) who is confined to her home because she suffers from a condition that makes sunlight deadly. Schwarzenegger plays Charlie, who meets Katie and takes her mind off her illness for the summer. Ashley Tisdale's ex, Scott Speer, will direct the film, which begins production this fall.
"Congrats to [Patrick]," Shriver tweeted Monday, June 21, after news broke of her son's casting. "So exciting! Hard work pays off."
Dining with Miley Cyrus' ex in April to discuss the project, Thorne is quick to confirm the on-screen couple aren't romantic in real-life. "Disclaimer: We are just friends," Thorne wrote when posting a snap from their dinner.
