Evidently, lawyers lie even more than you realize. Defense attorney Jake Gregorian (Daniel Sunjata) and news producer Julia George (Piper Perabo) butt heads in a fight that might not be what it seems, as seen in a teaser for the upcoming ABC legal drama Notorious.
The preview clip for the series, premiering Thursday, September 22, shows news anchor Kate Jennings Grant (Louise Herrick) grilling Gregorian after an arrest warrant was issued for his wealthy client in a hit-and-run case.
“I haven’t talked to Oscar, but I can assure you, this is just one giant misunderstanding,” the charming lawyer explains. “If Oscar were guilty, I wouldn’t be here — I’d be with him. … I don’t dispute that Oscar’s car was involved in this tragic accident, but Oscar was not behind the wheel. Maybe his car was stolen and the crook took it for a joyride — after all, there have been three break-ins at Oscar’s over the course of the past two years.”
When Grant intensifies her line of questioning, Gregorian unexpectedly storms off the stage, where he is greeted by an equally irate George.
“How could you ambush me?” the attorney asks, with the producer firing back, “It’s breaking news — I’m doing my job.”
But once the pair get behind closed doors, they’re all smiles, as it appears the brouhaha was all an act. “That could not have gone better — the show’s already trending,” a relaxed George says. Gregorian replies, “I got to plant the seeds of doubt before the country rushed to judgment — I owe you.”
