The Challenge

Reality competition show The Challenge premiered on MTV in June 1998 and features contestants who compete for $1 million in extreme challenges like “under siege,” “up all night,” “airdrop extraction” and “day of wreckoning.”

The Challenge is a spinoff of The Real World and Road Rules, initially casting former stars from the two shows. Today, the show chooses its competitors from other MTV franchises including Are You the One?, Ex on the Beach and Geordie Shore, as well as people from non-MTV shows and competitions.

Notable contestants through the years include Johnny Bananas, who is one of the most successful competitors in the show’s history, CT Tamburello, Cara Maria Sorbello, Wes Bergmann and Ashley Mitchell.
