Kim Kardashian used an unconventional trick as a finishing touch for her custom Lan Yu Couture gown at a Cannes Film Festival event on May 17. The reality star, 35, made her debut in a sparkly dress for the occasion. But beforehand, Kardashian had one issue: the dress’ nude mesh layer didn’t match her skin tone.
“We had just two hours before we left for Cannes,” Kardashian, who was hosting a party for Swiss jeweler De Grisogono, reminisced in a post on her website. “So we put Earl Grey tea bags in a sink and put the dress in for about 30 minutes to dye it.”
A video in the post shows a Kardashian aide placing seven bags in a basin full of water. After letting the nude slip steep, her team let it airdry on a hotel towel … but Kardashian explained that the process took a lot longer than they intended.
“It took right up until the red carpet for it to dry!!!,” she wrote. “We had to blow-dry it right before I put it on and it was still a little damp—but it worked, and it made the mesh a better match to my skin tone.”
Kardashian, who shares daughter North and son Saint with husband Kanye West, continued her Eurotrip in style … except for one misstep. During a visit to the opera in Rome on Sunday, May 22, Kardashian donned a white Vivienne Westwood dress with strappy platform sandals, danging earrings — and tan Spanx! Her shapewear was visible underneath the dress’ thigh-high slit.
