Hailee Steinfeld is bringing her true grit to the Barden Bellas! The Academy Award-nominated actress, 17, has just signed on to star in Pitch Perfect 2, the sequel to 2012's smash hit about college a capella groups.
Elizabeth Banks—who produced and appeared in the first film, and is making her feature directorial debut with the second—announced the casting news via Twitter on Wednesday, April 30. "@HaileeSteinfeld Welcome to the Barden Bellas!" she wrote. "Now lace up your dancing shoes, and get your tush down to Baton Rouge."
Steinfeld, in turn, tweeted, "It's official and I'm SO excited!!!!!!!!!! #PitchPerfect2" She also included a promo photo touting her role in the film.
The Ender's Game actress joins original Pitch Perfect stars Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, and Skylar Astin, who are set to reprise their roles in the highly anticipated sequel. Few other details have been released about the movie, but Banks offered one tease in a recent interview with Huffington Post.
"All I can say right now is that they will be graduating seniors this time around, rather than incoming freshmen," the Hunger Games: Catching Fire star said of the returning Bellas.
"I'm really excited to direct the girls," she added. "The whole project speaks so much to me and to women and to making women funny in really fun and interesting ways, and that's what I'm most looking forward to. I'm looking forward to letting the girls let loose."
Pitch Perfect 2 is due to hit theaters on May 15, 2015.
