So excited and you just can’t hide it? From the late ’80s to the early ’90s, Saved By the Bell entertained kids and teens across the world, but now it’s time to tell the “true story” behind the ever-positive smash hit.
According to Buzzfeed, Lifetime has greenlit and cast a new television movie, The Unauthorized Saved By the Bell Story, which is loosely based off of Dustin Diamond‘s 2009 tell-all book Behind the Bell.
In his book, the actor who played the spastic nerd Samuel “Screech” Powers claimed everyone in the cast (except him) was sleeping together and most were doing drugs.
The film’s creators conducted interviews separate from Diamond’s book and now plan to air the real story behind the cast of one of TV’s biggest sitcoms.
To play the real-life counterparts to Zack Morris and co., Lifetime enlisted the help of the original Saved By the Bell casting director Robin Lippin.
She cast Degrassi star Dylan Everett as Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Zack Morris), Shameless‘ Sam Kindseth as Dustin Diamond, Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones actor Julian Works as Mario Lopez (A.C. Slater), newcomer Alyssa Lynch as Tiffani-Amber Thiessen (Kelly Kapowski), Supernatural‘s Tiera Skovbye as Elizabeth Berkley (Jessie Spano), and Blink‘s Taylor Russell McKenzie as Lark Voorhies (Lisa Turtle).
