About

Debbie Gibson (born Deborah Ann Gibson) is a singer, songwriter and actress. Gibson was raised in Long Island, New York, and began writing songs as a child. After winning a local songwriting competition, she converted the family garage into a recording studio and began to take music more seriously.

Gibson’s career took off in the late ‘80s after the release of her debut album Out of the Blue (1987), which produced multiple hit singles, including “Shake Your Love” and “Foolish Beat.” Her follow-up album, Electric Youth (1989), went double platinum and featured the hit “Lost in Your Eyes.” She continued releasing music throughout the ’90s and 2000s, including the albums Think With Your Heart (1995) and M.Y.O.B (2001).

The singer later transitioned into musical theater, making her Broadway debut as Éponine Thénardier in the 1992 production of Les Misérables. She later starred in Grease and Cabaret.

Beyond music, Gibson has appeared in films and TV shows, including on season 25 of Dancing With the Stars. She and partner Alan Bersten were eliminated second.

In 2022, she released her eleventh studio album Winterlicious.

Gibson was previously engaged to Jonathan Kanterman, but the two called it off in 2003. She began dating Rutledge Taylor in 2008, and the pair split in 2019.
