Tequila shots all around! George Clooney and his BFF Rande Gerber are richer than ever. The business partners just sold their two side-by-side villas in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, to a Mexican billionaire for a whopping $100 million, Us Weekly can confirm.
Clooney, 54, and Gerber, 53, teamed with the architecture firm Legorreta + Legorreta to build the lavish ocean-view homes in 2009. Some of the eye-catching furnishings includes a rustic courtyard with Ralph Lauren throw pillows, large windows and doorways, an open kitchen and wood ceilings.
“They wanted houses that were very elegant and almost like an art piece, but where you would still be comfortable walking around barefoot and in a swimsuit,” Víctor Legorreta told Architectural Digest in October 2013.
Clooney and Gerber, who co-own Casamigos Tequila, have spent many holidays and getaways at the estates with their wives, Amal Clooney and Cindy Crawford.
“That property was the first modern house I thought I could live in,” supermodel Crawford, 50, told Architectural Digest. “Using wood was something we pushed for. It’s not the material the Legorretas are best known for, but we wanted the warmth.” She added of the similar homes: “They’re not twins, but more like sisters or cousins.”
Clooney and Gerber will soon be neighbors again. The source tells Us that they plan to build even larger residences in Cabo San Lucas. (TMZ was first to report the news.)
“There’s nothing more depressing than being in a big old house by yourself,” Clooney said of their original villas to Architectural Digest in 2013. “You want it filled with friends and family because that’s what makes a home.”
