About

Andy Dick (born Andrew Roane Dick) is an American comedian and actor known for his offbeat characters on NewsRadio, The Ben Stiller Show and The Andy Dick Show. Dick was born in Charleston, South Carolina, where he was adopted as an infant and later moved frequently due to his father’s career in the Navy. After his family settled in Chicago, he attended Illinois Wesleyan University then trained in improvisation at Second City and iO Theater where he began developing his comedic style.

Dick’s early career included stand-up performances and small television appearances before he joined the cast of The Ben Stiller Show in 1992. His breakout came in 1995 when he was cast as Matthew Brock on NewsRadio, which brought him national recognition. From 2001 to 2002, he created and starred in MTV’s The Andy Dick Show, further establishing his presence in sketch comedy.

Dick’s notable works span film and television, including roles in Reality Bites (1994), Inspector Gadget (1999) and Road Trip (2000). He has also done extensive voice work for projects like The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride (1998), Hoodwinked (2000) and Bite Me (2016-2017).

Dick married Ivone Kowalczyk in 1986 and they welcomed a son, Lucas, in 1988, before splitting in 1990. He later moved on with Lena Sved, and the two share son Jacob (born in 1994) and daughter Meg (born in 1998). They split and Sved filed a restraining order against him in 2018 after alleging he engaged in a drunken argument with his son.
