Gayle King is a broadcast journalist and television personality best known as cohost of CBS Mornings. King spent part of her childhood in Turkey, where her father worked as an engineer. She later returned to the U.S. and graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in psychology.

King began her career as a production assistant at WJZ-TV in Baltimore. She later became a news anchor and reporter at stations in Kansas City and Hartford. In 1991, she briefly hosted the syndicated talk show Cover to Cover.

In 2011, King joined CBS This Morning (later renamed CBS Mornings) as cohost. For her work as a correspondent, she has earned multiple Emmy nominations, and in 2019, she was named one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People. She later began cohosting King Charles on CNN with Charles Barkley.

King was married to attorney William Bumpus from 1982 to 1993. The former couple shares daughter Kirby, born in 1986, and son William Jr., born in 1987.
