Jeff Bezos

Jeff Bezos (born Jeffrey Preston Jorgensen) is an entrepreneur best known as the founder and former CEO of Amazon. Bezos was raised in Houston, Texas and was adopted by his stepfather, Miguel Bezos. He attended Princeton University, graduating in 1986 with degrees in electrical engineering and computer science.

After college, Bezos worked on Wall Street and at various firms in the tech and finance sectors. In 1994, he left his job at D. E. Shaw & Co. to start Amazon out of his garage in Seattle. Originally an online bookstore, Amazon quickly expanded into multiple categories and became a global e-commerce leader. Bezos took the company public in 1997 and served as CEO until stepping down in 2021.

Under Bezos’ leadership, Amazon launched services such as Amazon Prime, Kindle and Alexa, and it acquired companies including Whole Foods and Twitch. He later founded aerospace company Blue Origin in 2000 and purchased The Washington Post in 2013.

Bezos married MacKenzie Scott in 1993. They share four children, including three sons and one adopted daughter. The couple divorced in 2019. He moved on with former news anchor Lauren Sánchez and the couple got engaged in 2023. Bezos married Sánchez in June 2025 with a celebrity-filled wedding in Venice, Italy.
