Jim Bob Duggar

Jim Bob Duggar (born James Robert Duggar) is best known as the patriarch of the Duggar family and a reality TV personality who rose to fame on TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting. Born in Springdale, Arkansas, Duggar was raised in a Christian household and grew up in the state’s northwest region. He pursued a career in politics before his reality TV fame.

Duggar’s early career included work in real estate before he entered public office. In 1998, he was elected as a Republican to the Arkansas House of Representatives, where he served from 1999 to 2003. His family later gained national attention through television specials documenting their large household and conservative Christian lifestyle. Those specials led to the debut of 19 Kids and Counting in 2008, which followed the daily lives of the Duggar family and became one of TLC’s most-watched series during its 10-season run.

Beyond 19 Kids and Counting, Duggar appeared in related Duggar family programming and media interviews centered on faith, family life and parenting. He later joined the show’s spinoff series Counting On, which aired from 2015 to 2021.

Duggar married Michelle Duggar (née Ruark) in 1984. The couple share 19 children: Joshua, Jana, John-David, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joseph, Josiah, Joy-Anna, Jedidiah, Jeremiah, Jason, James, Justin, Jackson, Johannah, Jennifer, Jordyn-Grace and Josie.
