John F. Kennedy
John F. Kennedy was the 35th president of the United States, known for his leadership during the Cold War and his enduring political legacy. Kennedy spent his childhood in Brookline, Massachusetts, and later attended Harvard University. He graduated in 1940 before serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he commanded a patrol torpedo boat.
After the war, Kennedy briefly dabbled in journalism before entering politics, serving in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1947 to 1953 before he was elected to the Senate. His national profile grew with his 1960 presidential campaign against Richard Nixon, which he won, becoming the youngest elected president at the time. His rise to fame was marked by his charisma, televised debates and the cultural prominence of the Kennedy family.
During his presidency, Kennedy oversaw major geopolitical events, including the Cuban Missile Crisis, and advocated for civil rights legislation, later establishing the Peace Corps.
Kennedy married Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in 1953. Onassis gave birth to a stillborn, Arabella, in 1956. They later welcomed Caroline (born in 1957), John Jr. (1960-1999) and Patrick (born in 1963), who died two days after birth.
Kennedy was publicly assassinated while riding in a presidential motorcade in Dallas, Texas, on November 22, 1963.
