Lake Bell (born Lake Siegel Bell) is an actress, writer and director known for her work in both film and television. Bell spent her childhood in Manhattan, New York, and briefly attended Skidmore College before transferring to Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama in London to study acting.

Bell first gained recognition with recurring roles in series such as Boston Legal and Children’s Hospital and films including It’s Complicated (2009) and No Strings Attached (2011). She later starred in Million Dollar Arm (2014), Home Again (2017) and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022).

In 2011, the actress made her directorial debut with the short film Worst Enemy, followed by her feature film In a World… in 2013. The film earned her the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at Sundance and nominations from the Independent Spirit Awards. She later directed and starred in the comedy I Do … Until I Don’t. She also directed episodes of Casual, Bless This Mess and Pam & Tommy, winning a Hollywood Critics Association Television Award for the latter.

The actress has also done extensive voice work for projects such as Mr. Peabody & Sherman (2014), The Secret Life of Pets (2016) and BoJack Horseman.

She tied the knot with tattoo artist Scott Campbell in 2013 after meeting on How to Make It in America. The couple welcomed children Nova (born in 2014) and Ozgood (born in 2017) before their split in 2020.

In 2022, Us Weekly confirmed she was dating comedian Chris Rock, but the comic said he was single in March 2023.
