Rachel Brosnahan

Rachel Brosnahan is an American actress best known for playing Miriam “Midge” Maisel on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Brosnahan is the niece of designer Kade Spade. She was raised in Highland Park, Illinois, where she developed an interest in acting as a teenager and appeared in school productions before pursuing the craft professionally. She later moved to New York to attend New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 2012. She also trained at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute.

Brosnahan began booking roles in television and film, including a recurring part on House of Cards, which marked one of her earliest high-profile appearances. She also starred in the WGN America drama Manhattan. Her breakout came in 2017 when she was cast as aspiring stand-up comic Midge Maisel on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. The role earned her a Primetime Emmy Award and two Golden Globe Awards, propelling her to leading-lady status.

Brosnahan has since appeared in films including Patriots Day (2016), I’m Your Woman (2020) and Dead for a Dollar (2022), expanding her work across genres. In 2025, she starred in Superman, acting alongside David Corenswet.

In her personal life, Brosnahan married actor Jason Ralph in 2018 after several years of dating.
