Born in Montreal, Canada, René Angélil was a music producer.

Angélil was married to his first wife, Denyse Duquette, from 1966 to 1972, with whom he shared son Patrick. Angélil met Celine Dion in 1980 when she was 12 years old (he was 38), and he was married to Anne Renée. The couple shared son Jean-Pierre and daughter Anne-Marie. Angélil and Renée divorced in 1985.

Angélil and Dion’s relationship turned romantic in 1988. After keeping their relationship private until 1993, the pair tied the knot the next year. Angélil and Dion welcomed son René-Charles and twins Nelson and Eddy in 2001 and 2010, respectively.

Angélil was diagnosed with throat cancer in 1999. He continued to manage Dion’s career until his retirement in 2014. Angélil died at age 73 in 2016.
