Celine Dion
Born in March 1968 in Charlemagne, Quebec, Céline Dion is the best-selling Canadian singer of all time as well as one of the best-selling pop female artists of all time, having sold more than 220 million albums worldwide.
Dion’s singing career started at the ripe age of 12, when her manager (and future husband) René Angélil funded her first record, La voix du bon Dieu. She became an instant teen star in the French-speaking world. By 1990, she released her first English-speaking record, Unison, which garnered a slew of hits, including “Where Does My Heart Beat Now” and “The Last to Know.” She quickly became a singing sensation in the U.S., with her popularity growing in the ‘90s and then peaking at its highest when she delivered “My Heart Will Go On,” the lead single to 1998’s Titanic.
She married Angélil in December 1994 in Montreal. After years of trying to have a child naturally, Dion gave birth to son Rene-Charles through in vitro fertilization in January 2001. Nine years later, the music producer announced that the Grammy-winning singer was pregnant with twins after six in vitro treatments. Dion gave birth to sons Eddy and Nelson in October 2010.
Angélil died on January 14, 2016, after battling throat cancer. Dion confirmed the news on her website, writing that he “passed away … at his home in Las Vegas after a long and courageous battle.”
On June 8, 2019, Dion ended her eponymous second Las Vegas residency after 16 years. The final performance marked her 1,144th Céline show.
