Barbra Streisand

Barbra Streisand is an American singer, actress, filmmaker and producer known as one of the most successful and influential entertainers of all time. Streisand was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, and raised by her mother following the death of her father when she was an infant. She attended Erasmus Hall High School and later studied acting at the Actors Studio. While pursuing stage work in New York City, she also performed in nightclubs, where her voice and presence began drawing industry attention.

Her career began in the early 1960s with Broadway, earning acclaim for her performance in Funny Girl. The role launched her to national fame and led to her film debut in the 1968 movie adaptation, which won her the Academy Award for Best Actress. Streisand simultaneously built a chart-topping music career, releasing multiple albums that dominated the Billboard charts and established her as a major recording artist.

Streisand’s film work includes The Way We Were (1973), A Star Is Born (1976), Yentl (1983) and The Prince of Tides (1991). She has earned multiple Academy Awards, Grammy Awards, Emmy Awards and Tony Awards, achieving EGOT status in 1970. In addition to acting and singing, she has directed and produced several of her projects, expanding her influence behind the camera. Her albums span decades and she has contributed to soundtracks for shows such as Yellowjackets, Will & Grace and Stranger Things.

Streisand married actor Elliott Gould in 1963, and they divorced in 1971. They share one son, Jason Gould (born in 1966). After several high-profile relationships, including with Pierre Trudeau and Michael Cimino, she wed actor James Brolin in 1998.
