Tommy Lee Jones is an Oscar-winning actor known for his work in film and television, including The Fugitive, Men in Black and No Country for Old Men. Jones was born and raised in San Saba, Texas, and he attended St. Mark’s School of Texas before enrolling at Harvard University. He graduated in 1969 with a bachelor’s degree in English literature.

After college, Jones moved to New York City to pursue acting, starting on the stage in productions like A Patriot for Me (1969) before transitioning to television. He gained early attention with roles in soap operas and TV movies before landing his breakout film role in Coal Miner’s Daughter (1980). His career accelerated in the ’80s and early ’90s with a string of high-profile performances, including in 1982’s The Executioner’s Song, which won him an Emmy for Best Actor.

Jones earned an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for The Fugitive (1993) and received additional Oscar nominations for JFK (1991) and In the Valley of Elah (2007). His film credits include The Client (1994), Batman Forever (1995), Men in Black (1997), No Country for Old Men (2007) and Lincoln (2012). On television, he starred in Lonesome Dove, earning an Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series for his performance.

Jones has been married three times. He was first married to Kate Lardner from 1971 to 1978, followed by a marriage to Kimberlea Cloughley. He welcomed son Austin (born in 1982) and daughter Victoria (born in 1991) with Cloughley before their divorce in 1996. He tied the knot with Dawn Laurel-Jones in 2001. In January 2026, Victoria was found dead of a suspected overdose at age 34.
