Benicio Del Toro

Benicio Del Toro is an Oscar-winning actor known for his roles in Traffic, Sicario and The Usual Suspects. Del Toro was born in Puerto Rico and moved to Pennsylvania after his mother died when he was nine. He attended the University of California, San Diego, where he initially studied business. He eventually shifted to acting and trained at the Stella Adler Conservatory in Los Angeles and Circle in the Square Theatre School in New York.

Del Toro began his career in the late 1980s with guest appearances on shows such as Miami Vice and Drug Wars: The Camarena Story. His film breakthrough came in 1995 as the mumbling thief Fred Fenster in The Usual Suspects, which brought him early recognition. He gained further acclaim with performances in Basquiat (1996) and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998).

In 2000, Del Toro played Javier Rodriguez in Steven Soderbergh’s Traffic, a role that earned him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He was also awarded a Golden Globe for his performance in the role.

He has since starred in 21 Grams (2003), Sin City (2005), Sicario (2015) and The French Dispatch (2021), and he has played The Collector in several Marvel Cinematic Universe films.

In 2025, he appeared in Wes Anderson’s movie The Phoenician Scheme.

The actor was in an on-and-off relationship with model Kimberly Stewart, the daughter of musician Rod Stewart, before calling it quits in 2011. The pair share a daughter, Delilah, whom they welcomed in 2011.
