What’s cooking? Cameron Diaz celebrated her 44th birthday with a star-studded cooking class at the New School of Cooking in Culver City, California, Tuesday, August 30.
The Bad Teacher star was joined by her husband, Benji Madden; his brother Joel Madden and wife Nicole Richie; plus Gwyneth Paltrow and boyfriend Brad Falchuk. The group were all dressed casually and wore aprons while they learned to whip up Italian food, including wild mushroom risotto, salad and tiramisu in the trattoria-themed class.
And, even for this health-conscious crowd, there was dessert! A source tells Us Weekly that the dinner was topped off with a yellow birthday cake with chocolate frosting and candles for Diaz — and everyone sang “Happy Birthday” to the Annie actress.
“It was great energy, superpositive, laughing, just celebrating a birthday,” the source tells Us. “People did bring gifts, but [Cameron] didn’t open them. It was a really lovely birthday dinner party, just really good vibes. Nothing out of the ordinary. They stayed for around three hours.”
According to the onlooker, the friends were having a great time, even raising their glasses to the fun-filled evening, adding that there were “toasts and cheers and hugs and kisses.”
Several of the Body Book author’s close pals and her husband took to social media to mark her latest milestone. Benji, 37, posted a photo of the couple standing in the famous Rain Room art exhibit and captioned it: “Happy Birthday to my beautiful Wife. You’re my best friend and I’m so thankful for you, sometimes I just want to tell the world. Generous, Kind, Compassionate, Selfless, Humble, Thoughtful, Patient and Loyal. Just a few of the qualities I would use to describe who you are, consistently, everyday. Thank you for being you, I’m a lucky guy. Here’s to many more. Love you.”
The Goop founder, 43, also shared a pic with Diaz and close friend Drew Barrymore, writing, “Dear @camerondiaz, before the day ends, I bid you a happy birthday, and I hit the ground with gratitude for getting to be one of the women who calls you a best friend.”
