Joel Madden

Joel Madden is the lead vocalist of the rock band Good Charlotte, known for his role as a coach on The Voice Australia. Madden was born in Waldorf, Maryland, and raised alongside his twin brother Benji Madden and two other siblings. He attended La Plata High School and began pursuing music with Benji in his teens.

Madden co-founded the rock band Good Charlotte in 1996 with Benji, guitarist Billy Martin and bassist Paul Thomas. The band’s self-titled debut was released in 2000, but their breakthrough came with the 2002 album The Young and the Hopeless, featuring hit singles like “Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous” and “The Anthem.” The band went on to release several more albums, including The Chronicles of Life and Death (2004), Cardiology (2010) and Generation Rx (2018).

In addition to his work with Good Charlotte, Madden formed the pop duo The Madden Brothers with Benji in 2011. The following year, he became a recurring coach on The Voice Australia.

Madden began dating Nicole Richie in 2006. The couple married in 2010 and have two children: daughter Harlow (born in 2008) and son Sparrow (born in 2009).
