Holy costume update! When Ben Affleck dons Batman's Batsuit, his costume will be sans nipples, says Kevin Smith in the latest episode of his podcast, Hollywood Babble-On: "I saw the Batman costume. More than that I saw a picture of him [Affleck] in the costume."
The filmmaker, also a popular comic book writer, shared that he "instantly bear hugged [director Zack Snyder]" after seeing the revamped look. "You have not seen this costume in film before. Because every other movie has done this Matrix, X-Men black armor thing." He added, "There wasn't a single nipple on this fricking suit."
"For a comic book fan it was mind-bending," Smith shared. The screenwriter had previously disclosed his support for the film, giving the thumbs up to Ben Affleck — who is stepping into a role previously played by the likes of Christian Bale, George Clooney, Michael Keaton, and Val Kilmer. "I'm already a flag waver for this movie, but the costume, it blew my mind," said Smith.
Affleck, meanwhile, told Jimmy Fallon in September that the studio had prepared the seasoned actor for the anticipated backlash once the news was announced. "They said, 'Just don't use the Internet for a couple of days.'" A curious Affleck, however, could not resist surfing the web for reaction: "I saw the announcement, I look down the thing. The first comment? 'Noooooooooo.'"
He told Fallon that he is excited to see the reaction of his three kids with wife Jennifer Garner — Violet, 7, Seraphina, 4, and Samuel, 20 months — once he is revealed in the Batsuit. "Every kid should see their dad as a superhero, right? It's so awesome," Affleck gushed to Fallon.
Batman vs. Superman, starring Affleck and Henry Cavill, is slated to hit theaters on July 17, 2015.
