During the Thursday, April 23, episode of the hit CBS series, Elsbeth (Carrie Preston) was investigating a wealth therapist (Constance Wu) suspected of using patient secrets for insider trading who becomes the focus of a murder investigation. Elsbeth called Dr. Mallory Ryan (Wu) in to question a detail about her personal patient logs.

“This is a September 2024 entry about a patient — name redacted — who experienced prolonged erectile dysfunction in the aftermath of Space X’s failure to launch,” Elsbeth asked Mallory. “Power of suggestion, I guess?”

Mallory clarified that it was “a traumatic event for many high network men” but Musk founded the company in 2002. This isn’t the first time the show has found unique ways to mention real people with past episodes taking playful aim at Jordon Hudson, Bill Belichick, Leonardo DiCaprio and more.

Thursday’s episode also stood out because of Kaya’s (Carra Patterson) return. Since Elsbeth premiered, Preston’s title character has been working alongside Patterson’s Kaya to solve cases in New York City. Season 2, which concluded in May 2025, ended with Patterson departing the show as a series regular.

The show explained Kaya’s absence by revealing she was on an undercover assignment in Washington D.C.

“I was concerned when Carra needed to go and what we were going to do without her,” Preston, 58, told Us Weekly exclusively in February. “But what ended up happening was we brought on Lindsay Mendez, B, Ethan Slater and we brought all these wonderful characters.”

The shakeup allowed the show’s writers to get creative.

“[It brought] change, growth, conflict, loss and all of those things are enriching for any character. Our show for the first couple of seasons was also very much a romance where these two women were very much connected and they were so different and yet found this incredible common ground through their work together,” Preston told Us. “That doesn’t go away. So the longing for that — for her best friend — and to be with her has created some really fun and deep and touching scene work.”

The actress continued: “When Kaya does come back then we get to see that reunion. We get to see them fall back into where they were, but both of them have experienced things apart that they can bring to the friendship. It’s been interesting, and the writers have done such a beautiful job of not trying to fill the shoes of Kaya because you can’t, but instead bringing in different sidekicks for Elsbeth and seeing her have relationships with those people and those are different than what she has with Kaya. All of those things are doing nothing but making it a richer tapestry for the actors and hopefully for the audience.”

The newest episode, however, hinted that Kaya could be back for good again.

Elsbeth airs on CBS Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET. New episodes stream the next day on Paramount+.

The streamer has lined up a slew of high-profile new and returning TV shows, with The Four Seasons season 2 starring Tina Fey and Colman Domingo, a new Lord of the Flies adaptation and the sports docuseries Rafa at the top of Watch With Us‘ list.

Netflix is also premiering some great new original movies, like Remarkably Bright Creatures with Sally Field and Lewis Pullman, and a Martin Short documentary.

“Things have happened, like they do at that hospital in Seattle. So things happen, but we’ll see what happens with Nick’s fate for sure,” Speedman teased of his character’s future to TV Insider earlier this month.

Speedman called his return to Grey’s Anatomy for the season 22 finale “exciting.”. In the trailer for the upcoming episode of the medical drama, Nick was seen being wheeled into the hospital on a stretcher.

“Luckily, I was able [to do both shows], and I’ve been filming in North Carolina, so it’s very tricky to get in and out of,” Speedman, who is also starring in ABC’s RJ Decker, explained. “So I was able to get back to do an episode for the season finale of Grey’s, and that was very fun and exciting.”

He continued, “We were able to do it pretty quickly and then jump back on a plane and get back to R.J.-land. So it’s tricky but doable.”

Speedman didn’t rule out another return to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.

“I love doing that show, and it’s always fun,” he continued.

While Nick’s chances of returning are still high, Owen (Kevin McKidd) and Teddy (Kim Raver) are leaving the show at the end of the season. Raver, 57, reflected on the possibility she could be exiting Grey’s Anatomy shortly before news broke of the multiple cast departures.

“That’s the life of an actor,” Raver exclusively told Us Weekly ahead of her shocking exit, opening up about life working on a hit medical drama amid cast changes.

“When I was on 24, I always felt like being Jack Bauer’s girlfriend — I had a target on my back,” she added.

Raver, who has played Teddy since season 6, wanted to focus on the work she was doing on screen rather than worrying about her future employment.

“It’s really just about trying to be present and doing the work and following the amazing story lines that the writers are giving us,” she explained. “Especially with how now we’re always having these incredible cliffhangers. One never knows.”

I’m particularly thankful to Shonda Rhimes for creating Owen, and for the encouragement she gave me as I stepped into directing.”

He continued, “As that chapter comes to a close, I’m looking forward to what’s ahead — building new work, telling new stories and taking everything I’ve learned into the next phase of my career.”

‘Oddity’ (2024)

An escaped mental patient named Olin Boole (Tadhg Murphy), a recently released patient of Ted Timmis (Gwilym Lee), is assumed to have murdered Ted’s wife, Dani (Carolyn Bracken). One year late and still grieving Dani’s death, Dani’s twin sister, Darcy (Bracken), receives Olin’s glass eye from Ted and uses it to see the final moments of her sister’s death. Armed with new information, Darcy returns to Ted and Dani’s rural country house, the scene of the crime,  accompanied by an unnerving plus one: a life-size wooden golem from her collection of supernatural weapons.

Oddity is a highly underrated Irish horror film from 2024 that deserves to reign as one of the most disquieting modern horrors of the past few years. Despite being only 98 minutes, Oddity is a patient, unhurried movie that manifests a compelling sense of suspense through its smart script and cinematography that uses light and space to make viewers feel vulnerable and ill at ease. Although judging by the early streaming numbers, it seems like the majority of fans have already embraced the revival.

It’s Fun to See the Cast Together Again After Two Decades

The biggest attraction for the revival is seeing almost all of the original cast members reprising their roles. Erik Per Sullivan was the only major holdout who refused to return as Dewey, and it seems like the show gave his replacement, Caleb Ellsworth-Clark, the short end of the stick by keeping his character largely relegated to video calls. The character and the actor deserved better. But having said that, it was a blast to watch Muniz, Cranston, Jane Kaczmarek, Justin Berfield and Christopher Kennedy Masterson slip back into the characters they played.

It’s not even surprising that most of the family didn’t change that much in the intervening decades. Honestly, it wouldn’t be Malcolm in the Middle if his family had transformed themselves into fully functional people who didn’t have such oddball personalities. Out of the siblings, Francis (Masterson) looks like he might be ready for parenthood, but he’s also still kind of stuck in his ways as well. As for Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek), they should never change. Too much of the comedy comes from Lois’ freakouts and Hal’s willingness to be ridiculous.

Bryan Cranston Gets to Be Funny Again

Speaking of which, Cranston has been so closely identified with his more serious turns in Breaking Bad and Your Honor that it feels like a breath of fresh air to see him clowning it up again as Hal. Cranston is a terrific dramatic performer, but he’s at his best when he’s allowed to slip into his comedic persona. Hal also gets some of the revival’s best stories, including his very palpable sense of betrayal when he realizes the extent to which Malcolm hid his life from his parents and his siblings.

Without giving away too much about the show’s most amusing subplot, Hal’s attempt to cure himself of depression leads to a dual performance from Cranston. This alternate version of Hal is even more over-the-top than his normal self, and Cranston nails the performance yet again. It’s not as if the rest of the cast aren’t good in their roles as well. Life’s Still Unfair just reaches another level whenever it gives Cranston a chance to take center stage.

It Feels Like ‘Malcolm’ Could Continue Beyond the Revival

Getting the cast of Malcolm in the Middle back together regularly is probably too tall an order for it to become a reality. But Life’s Still Unfair gives Malcolm a life away from his family that looks like it could be the basis of its own sitcom. Since Malcolm’s a father now, the focus seems to shift to his daughter, Leah (Keeley Karsten). She’s got his fourth-wall-breaking ability, and she even takes over the narration in this series. Karsten is excellent in the role, and it’s possible she could do more with it if there’s a full revival.

Kiana Madeira is also interesting as Malcolm’s girlfriend, Tristan. She’s a good match for Malcolm, and the show reveals that she has a few skeletons in her own closet. Tristan doesn’t let Malcolm get away with anything, and they would be an intriguing set of parents for Leah if there were a show that was only about them. But for now, we’ll have to wait and see if this is the end of Malcolm in the Middle, or the start of something new.

PK, 58, and Dorit, 49, announced their separation in May 2024, with Dorit filing for divorce from the talent manager and entrepreneur in April 2025. The exes share son Jagger, 12, and daughter Phoenix, 10.

In a wide-ranging interview with relationship expert Paul C. Brunson on the latter’s “We Need to Talk” podcast on Tuesday, April 28, PK revealed how appearing on the Bravo reality show changed both him and Dorit and their relationship, leaving him to wonder about his wife, “Who are you?”

“I’m not blaming that show [for] my divorce or my relationship or who I think Dorit is now versus who I think she was, or who I am now,” he said, adding, “I think the biggest question that I have that will never be answered is that, is Dorit where she was always going to be and always going to end up, or was I responsible for putting her in that world and then that world created what happened now?”

“Because there’s no question that before we did that [show] … If you talk about happy times, I remember living in Tribeca, we had a beautiful apartment, and then we had the baby, and life was pretty f***ing good,” he continued.

PK said that it was his idea for Dorit to go on RHOBH after the couple moved to Los Angeles. Looking back, he said, “Who drove the bus into the wall? Me.” (Dorit and PK joined the cast during season 7, which aired from December 2016 to April 2017.)

He explained, “The show likes to go back and only talk about bad things. They build up this vision of who you are as a person, as a couple, and then you start repeating it, you start believing it, and suddenly you find yourself [saying], ‘What are you talking about? I’m nothing like that guy. I’m nothing like the person they’re showing.’ And I’m looking at my wife and saying, ‘Who are you?’ It’s scary when you look at it.”

Elsewhere in the interview, PK said that he doesn’t “want that period of my life to define me.”

“That show… it’s not my life,” he said.

“It’s a TV show that shows snippets of my life based on the premise of the show,” he went on to allege. “And they cut it, they edit it, they allow story lines that even the producers know are not true to grow, because that’s the brilliance of the show.”

PK said that he has chosen not to address Dorit’s claims about their separation and divorce on the show for the sake of their children. (During season 14, Dorit claimed her ex was a “full-blown alcoholic,” which he denied at the time. During the currently airing season 15, Dorit alleged that PK “doesn’t give me any money” and that she was paying all the household bills for their family home.)

“I’ve been very clear that I do not want to litigate my divorce publicly. I don’t think it serves in the best interests of the kids,” PK said during Tuesday’s interview.

While there seems to be an excess glut of movies about the creation of brands (Flamin’ Hot, Unfrosted, Tetric), BlackBerry stands apart as a terrifically written and well-directed look at the rise and fall of a genuinely groundbreaking piece of technology made obsolete. The movie is buoyed by a great sense of humor from director and co-writer Johnson (who is also behind the recent Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie), and a scene-stealing turn from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Howerton as the aggressively ambitious Balsille.

Jimmy Kimmel Weighs In After Melania Trump Shuts Down Epstein Rumors

The comments the Trumps took issue with were made on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday, April 23 — two days before the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. As part of a 10-minute roast of the president, Kimmel joked that Melania had a “glow like an expectant widow.”

Kimmel later teased that Melania would celebrate her 56th birthday on Sunday, April 26, “the same way she always does — looking out a window and whispering, ‘What have I done?’”

Following the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting, Melania released a statement accusing Kimmel of “hateful and violent rhetoric” that “is intended to divide our country.”

“His monologue about my family isn’t comedy — his words are corrosive and deepens the political sickness within America,” she insisted. “People like Kimmel shouldn’t have the opportunity to enter our homes each evening to spread hate.”

Kimmel stressed during his monologue on Monday that his reference to Melania, 56, being an “expectant widow” was a simple joke about the age gap in her marriage.

“This was Thursday. There was no big reaction to it, until this morning, when I greeted the day facing yet another Twitter vomit storm and a call to fire me from our first lady, Melania Trump, saying I should be fired because of a joke I made, again, five nights ago. It was a pretend roast,” he pointed out.

The Jimmy Kimmel Live! host went on, “It obviously was a joke about their age difference and the look of joy we see on her face every time they’re together. It was a very light roast joke about the fact that he’s almost 80 and she’s younger than I am. It was not, by any stretch of the definition, a call to assassination, and they know that. I’ve been very vocal for many years, speaking out against gun violence, but I understand that the first lady had a stressful experience over the weekend, and probably every weekend is pretty stressful in that house.”

Kimmel outright rejected Melania’s accusation that he’d contributed to “hateful and violent rhetoric” with his joke last Thursday.

“I think a great place to start to dial that back would be to have a conversation with your husband about it,” he quipped.

Kimmel then more seriously told Melania, “I am sorry that you, and the president and everyone in that room went through that. I really am. Just because no-one got killed doesn’t mean it was not traumatic and scary. We should come together and be best.”

Us Weekly has reached out to the White House for comment.

On Monday, Donald, 79, took the matter one step further than the first lady by calling for ABC to fire Kimmel from his late-night show.

“Wow, Jimmy Kimmel, who is in no way funny as attested to by his terrible Television Ratings, made a statement on his show that is really shocking,” the president shared via his Truth Social on Monday. “He showed a fake video of the First Lady, Melania, and our son, Barron, like they were actually sitting in his studio, listening to him speak, which they weren’t, and never would be. He then stated, ‘Our First Lady, Melania, is here. Look at Melania, so beautiful. Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow.’”

The president went on, “A day later a lunatic tried entering the ballroom of the White House Correspondents Dinner, loaded up with a shotgun, handgun, and many knives. He was there for a very obvious and sinister reason. I appreciate that so many people are incensed by Kimmel’s despicable call to violence, and normally would not be responsive to anything that he said but, this is something far beyond the pale. Jimmy Kimmel should be immediately fired by Disney and ABC. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
