If lipstick sales are any predictor of Oscar winners, then Leonardo DiCaprio might not get his golden statue this year.
That honor would go to Steve Jobs‘ Michael Fassbender. The bright pink “Michael” (below, right) in the Tom Ford Beauty Lips & Boys collection outsold the other colors with names of best actor nominees.
Of the five male Oscar 2016 contenders, Fassbender, The Danish Girl‘s Eddie Redmayne and The Revenant‘s DiCaprio boast the same name as hues in the collection (Tom Ford has yet to release lipsticks for their fellow nominees: Trumbo‘s Bryan Cranston and The Martian‘s Matt Damon). “Michael” is the bestselling one of the bunch, the vampy wine-red “Leonardo” (below, center) comes in at second place, and “Eddie” (below, left), a neutral metallic, takes third.
In the 50-piece collection, Ford named each color after men he admires or who inspire him.
“I love seeing a woman in a man’s suit. Why not have a lipstick named after a man?” Ford said of his line, which he first debuted in November 2014 and added 25 new shades in November 2015. In addition to this year’s Academy Awards nominees, other notable colors include Ansel, Joaquin and Drake.
And in case you want to be a little more diplomatic with your lipstick choices, you don’t have to decide among the three. When you purchase a trio of lipsticks (each costs $35 at tomford.com), they come packaged in a cute complimentary clutch, as in the image above.
