Anna Kournikova is a Russian-born former professional tennis player and model best known for becoming a global sports and pop culture star despite never winning a singles title. Born in Moscow, Kournikova grew up in an athletic family. She picked up tennis at age 5 and moved to Florida with her mother as a child to train at coach Nick Bollettieri’s academy.

Kournikova turned pro in 1995 at age 14 after a standout junior career. She won the 1995 ITF Junior World Championship and Orange Bowl before reaching the Wimbledon semifinals in 1997. She was named WTA Newcomer of the Year in 1996 and later became a doubles standout, reaching the No. 1 ranking in 1999.

Kournikova won two Australian Open women’s doubles titles with Martina Hingis in 1999 and 2002. She retired from professional tennis in 2003 after suffering multiple injuries and later appeared as a trainer on The Biggest Loser in 2011.

Kournikova was previously linked to hockey players Sergei Fedorov and Pavel Bure. She began dating Enrique Iglesias after appearing in his 2001 music video for “Escape.” The couple have never legally married. They share twins Nicholas and Lucy (born in 2017), daughter Mary (born in 2020) and son Romeo (born in 2025).
