Ariana Debose
About
Ariana DeBose grew up in North Carolina. She competed on season 6 of So You Think You Can Dance in 2009 before making her Broadway debut two years later in Bring It On: The Musical.
DeBose was an original ensemble member of Hamilton from 2015 to 2016. She later starred in Broadway’s A Bronx Tale and Summer: The Donna Summer Musical, which earned her a Tony Award nomination.
The actress made a splash in TV and film after starring in 2020’s The Prom and 2021’s West Side Story. Her portrayal of Anita in the musical film led to DeBose winning her first Oscar. She also won a BAFTA, Critics’ Choice, Golden Globe and SAG Award for the role. DeBose has since starred on Schmigadoon! and voiced Asha in 2023’s Wish.
She hosted the Tony Awards for the first time in 2022 before returning to host in 2023 and 2024. DeBose is dating costume designer Sue Makkoo, whom she worked with on 2018’s Summer: The Donna Summer Musical.
