About

Josh Radnor is an American actor, writer and director best known for playing Ted Mosby on the long-running sitcom How I Met Your Mother. Radnor was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, in a Jewish family with two sisters. He attended Bexley High School before enrolling at Kenyon College, where he graduated in 1996 with a bachelor’s degree in drama. He later continued his training at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, receiving a master of fine arts degree in acting.

After working in theater and landing guest roles on television, Radnor’s career shifted dramatically in 2005 when he was cast as the lead of How I Met Your Mother. The CBS sitcom ran for nine seasons and made Radnor a household name, with his portrayal of romantic architect Ted Mosby anchoring the ensemble cast throughout the show’s run. The series became one of the most successful comedies of its era. Radnor later went on to appear in Grey’s Anatomy, Three Birthdays (2023) and All Happy Families (2023).

In addition to acting, Radnor has built a parallel career behind the camera. He wrote, directed and starred in HappyThankYouMorePlease (2010), winning the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival in 2010. He followed it with Liberal Arts (2012), in which he starred opposite Elizabeth Olsen. Radnor has also appeared in series including Mercy Street, Hunters and Fleishman Is in Trouble, while continuing to work in theater and independent film.

Radnor married clinical psychologist Jordana Jacobs in January 2024. The pair welcomed their first child, a son, in late 2025.
