
Justine Bateman
Justine Bateman is an American actress, director, author and filmmaker best known for her breakthrough role as Mallory Keaton on the hit sitcom Family Ties. After relocating from New York, Justine spent her childhood in Woodland Hills, California, alongside younger brother Jason Bateman. She graduated high school in 1984, the same year she began landing on screen acting roles.
Justine’s rise to fame began in 1982 when she was cast on Family Ties, a role that made her a household name throughout the show’s run until its end in 1989. The success of the series launched her into mainstream stardom throughout the ’90s and 2000s, with appearances on shows such as Men Behaving Badly, Arrested Development and Desperate Housewives. She also established a presence in film, with roles in movies like The Night We Never Met (1996), Highball (1997) and Deep Dark Canyon (2013).
Justine later expanded into writing and directing with the short film Five Minutes (2017) and later made her feature directorial debut with Violet at the 2021 SXSW Film Festival. She has also authored two books: Fame: The Hijacking of Reality (2018) and Face: One Square Foot of Skin (2021).
Justine married financier Mark Fluent in 2001. They share two children: son Duke (born in 2002) and daughter Gianetta (born in 2004).
