About

Keith Richards is a Grammy-winning guitarist, songwriter and founding member of The Rolling Stones. Richards was raised in Kent, England, and showed an early interest in music as a child. He attended Sidcup Art College, where he reconnected with Mick Jagger, a childhood acquaintance who shared his passion for American blues. He later left college to pursue music full time.

In 1962, Richards co-founded The Rolling Stones with Jagger, Brian Jones, Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman. The band quickly rose to fame with their gritty sound and rebellious image, scoring early hits like “Satisfaction,” “Paint It Black” and “Jumpin’ Jack Flash.” Richards became known for his guitar playing and contributed to co-writing most of the group’s catalog alongside Jagger, establishing the duo as one of rock’s most influential songwriting teams. The group earned their first Grammy nomination with their 1978 album Some Girls. Their 1994 release Voodoo Lounge won them their first Grammy for Best Rock Album.

Over the decades, he has continued to tour and record with The Rolling Stones, contributing to albums such as Exile on Main St. (1972), Tattoo You (1981) and Hackney Diamonds (2023). He also launched a solo career in the late ’80s with albums like Talk Is Cheap. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside the Rolling Stones members in 1989.

The Grammy winner was previously married to model Anita Pallenberg, with whom he had three children, including Marlon (born in 1969) and Angela (born in 1972). Their son Tara (born in 1976) died as an infant. The pair split in 1980. He later married Patti Hansen, and they have two daughters, Theodora (born in 1985) and Alexandra (born in 1986).
