Marietta Sangai Sirleaf, known professionally as Retta, is an American stand-up comedian and actress celebrated for her roles in television and film. Retta began her career in stand-up comedy, performing on Comedy Central’s Premium Blend. She gained widespread recognition for her role as Donna Meagle on NBC’s Parks and Recreation (2009–2015) before going on to star as Ruby Hill in NBC’s Good Girls (2018–2021).
Retta has kept her personal life relatively private, but she once mentioned dating a man from Georgia who nicknamed her “Retta” because her full name, Marietta, reminded him of his hometown.
In June 2024, Retta reunited with her Parks and Recreation costar Amy Poehler backstage at Live With Kelly and Mark, delighting fans of the show.
Retta’s aunt Ellen Johnson Sirleaf served as president of Liberia from 2006 to 2018. She was the first elected female head of state in Africa.
