Born Robyn Rihanna Fenty in Saint Michael, Barbados, R&B/pop singer Rihanna got her big break in 2003 when she was introduced to record producer Evan Rogers. At the time, Rihanna was part of a musical trio, but Rogers was only interested in her talents as a solo artist.
Rihanna recorded a demo with Rogers that was quickly picked up by her future label, Def Jam. Her early albums — including 2005’s Music of the Sun and 2006’s A Girl Like Me — topped the charts, but 2007’s Good Girl Gone Bad rocketed her to fame with hits such as “Umbrella” and “Don’t Stop the Music.” She won her first Grammy Award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for “Umbrella” in 2008.
In February 2009, an altercation with then-boyfriend Chris Brown left her in a hospital with several injuries. Brown was arrested and charged with assault following the incident, which occurred on the night of the 2009 Grammy Awards. The pair reconciled in 2012 — dating again and even collaborating musically — until their split the following year.
Drama aside, Rihanna continued to release hit studio albums, including 2009’s Rated R, 2010’s Loud, 2011’s Talk That Talk, 2012’s Unapologetic and 2016’s Anti. Rihanna has 32 Top 10 Billboard hits, with 14 of them reaching No. 1, including “We Found Love,” “Disturbia” and “Work.” She’s won nine Grammys over the years from a total of 33 nominations. She headlined the 2023 Super Bowl halftime show while pregnant after a seven-year hiatus from music — and the show became the most-watched in Super Bowl history.
Rhianna is known for her high fashion style and was named the Sexiest Woman Alive by Esquire in 2011. Rihanna launched her Fenty clothing line in 2019, soon expanding her product offerings into the beauty and lingerie markets. She has also ventured into acting, starring in movies such as Battleship (2012) and Ocean’s 8 (2018).
After splitting from Brown for the second time, Rihanna was romantically linked to Travis Scott, Drake and Hassan Jameel. Us Weekly confirmed in February 2020 that Rihanna and rapper ASAP Rocky were hooking up after years of friendship, one year before the couple made their red carpet debut at the Met Gala. The twosome announced in January 2022 that Rihanna was pregnant with their first baby. She gave birth to son RZA in May 2022. Following her Super Bowl LVII pregnancy reveal, Rihanna gave birth to the couple’s second baby, son Riot, in August 2023. Sources confirmed to Us in May 2025 that Rihanna was expecting baby No. 3 with Rocky. Daughter Rocki was born in September 2025.
