About

Tara Lipinski is a legend in the figure skating world. Already a national champion at age 9, the athlete later became the youngest skater to win a U.S. National Championship title in 1997 at the age of 14.

The U.S. Figure Skating Association selected Lipinski to represent Team USA at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan, alongside rival Michelle Kwan and Nicole Bobek. She narrowly beat out Kwan for the gold, earning the title of the youngest Olympic gold medalist in Winter Games history at age 15.

One month after the Olympics, Lipinski announced her retirement from competitive skating amid several health issues. She continued to skate professionally, joining tours with Champions on Ice and later Stars on Ice, until retiring in 2002.

After her Olympic success, Lipinski released two books in 1998, Totally Tara – An Olympic Journey and Tara Lipinski: Triumph on Ice, and started acting. She appeared on Sabrina the Teenage Witch, 7th Heaven, The Young and the Restless and more. She also played an ice skater in the TV movie Ice Angel. In more recent years, she has had arcs on Superstore, Kidding and Night Court.

Lipinski has been known as a figure skating commentator since 2010, often offering insight alongside close friend and fellow Olympian Johnny Weir.

She married sports producer Todd Kapostasy in 2017. The couple welcomed their first child, daughter Georgie, in October 2023 via surrogate.
