About

Adam Rippon is an Olympic figure skater and television personality. Rippon picked up skating after accompanying his mother to an ice rink at 10 years old. He quickly fell in love with the sport, and in 2009, he moved to Toronto to further his training.

Rippon found immediate success in the competition world. His first of many achievements was a silver medal at the 2005 U.S. Championships. He gained a reputation as a fierce competitor, and he would often compete his signature jump, the “Rippon Lutz,” in his programs. To date, the skater has competed in countless competitions internationally and most notably brought home a bronze medal with Team USA during the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

After retiring from skating in 2018, Rippon maintained his status as a public figure and transitioned to commentary and reality TV appearances. He was a figure skating analyst with NBC Sports before covering two consecutive Olympics for the network. Rippon is not only a star athlete but multitalented — he, alongside partner Jenna Johnson, won the 26th season of Dancing With the Stars. He’s also made guest appearances on RuPaul’s Drag Race, Stars on Mars, and Will & Grace.

In 2019, he published a memoir entitled Beautiful on the Outside.

Rippon came out as gay in 2015, and has been an active advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. He married Jussi-Pekka Kajaala in December 2021.
