Bradley Whitford is an Emmy-nominated actor best known for playing Josh Lyman on The West Wing. Whitford spent his childhood in Wayne, Pennsylvania and attended Wesleyan University. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English and theater before earning his MFA from the Juilliard School.

Whitford began his career on stage and made his television debut in the mid-’80s with guest appearances on The Equalizer and Tales from the Darkside. He later gained recognition on NYPD Blue and ER before landing his breakout role as Josh Lyman on The West Wing in 1999. His role on the show earned him a Primetime Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 2001.

After The West Wing ended in 2006, Whitford starred on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and later appeared in The Mentalist, Transparent and The Handmaid’s Tale. The latter won him an Emmy in 2019 for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series. On the big screen, he boasts appearances in The Cabin in the Woods (2011), Saving Mr. Banks (2013), The Post (2017) and Get Out (2017).

Whitford was married to actress Jane Kaczmarek from 1992 to 2010. They share three children: Frances (born in 1997), George (born in 1999) and Mary Louisa (born in 2002). In 2019, he married Transparent costar actress Amy Landecker after dating for four years.
