Chris Martin

Born in March 1977 in Exeter, Devon, England, to father Anthony John Martin and mom Allison Martin, Chris Martin is the eldest of five children. After attending the pre-predatory Hilton School and the preparatory Exeter Cathedral School, the singer discovered his love of music. While studying at the University of College London — from which he graduated with a degree in Ancient World Studies – he met Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion. Together, the four musicians created their band, Coldplay.

Following the release of their debut album Parachutes in 2000, Coldplay achieved worldwide success, with their hit single “Yellow” earning their first two Grammy nominations in 2002. To date, the band has dropped ten full-length studio albums and two EPs and have been nominated for 39 Grammys, winning seven.

Martin married Gwyneth Paltrow in 2003 and the pair went on to welcome two children together, daughter Apple and son Moses, in 2004 and 2006, respectively. After more than a decade of marriage, Paltrow revealed in 2014 that she and Martin were separating and labeled their split as a “conscious uncoupling.” The actress filed for divorce in April 2015 and it was finalized more than a year later.

The England native later moved on with Annabelle Wallis, whom he dated from 2015 to 2017. He has been in a relationship with Dakota Johnson since October 2017, but they reportedly split in June 2025.
