About

Danny Glover is an actor and political activist. Glover spent much of his childhood in San Francisco, and he briefly attended San Francisco State University, though he did not graduate. Both Glover’s parents were heavily involved in social justice issues, which would later spur his own involvement in political activism.

Glover got his start working in community development before pivoting to acting. He began his career by studying at the American Conservatory Theater and moved to Los Angeles after making the decision to pursue acting full time. Glover landed his first big screen role in 1979 with the film Escape From Alcatraz. He later starred in the Oscar-nominated film The Color Purple (1985) alongside Whoopi Goldberg.

In 1987, the actor was featured as the titular role in the highly-acclaimed show Mandela. Some of his later work includes The Royal Tenenbaums (2001), Saw (2004) and Jumanji: The Next Level (2019). He’s also appeared on shows such as Leverage and Criminal Minds.

Throughout his career, Glover has advocated for a number of social justice causes and is a member of countless organizations dedicated to serving underprivileged communities.

The actor married Asake Bomani in 1976, and the couple welcomed daughter Mandisa in 1976. They divorced in 2000. He was married to Eliane Cavalleiro from 2009 to 2022.
