
David Harbour
David Harbour was born in White Plains, New York, on April 10, 1975. Harbour graduated from Dartmouth College in 1997 with majors in drama and Italian before he began acting professionally. In 1999, Harbour appeared in the Broadway revival of The Rainmaker. Later that year, he portrayed a waiter on an episode of Law & Order.
Harbour was nominated for a Tony Award in 2005 for his performance in a production of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? His other notable roles include MI6 agent Roger Anderson in the ABC series Pan Am, CIA agent Gregg Beam in the movie Quantum of Solace (2008), Shep Campbell in the film Revolutionary Road (2008) and Elliot Hirsch in the HBO series The Newsroom.
Harbour rose to prominence in 2016 when he was cast as Chief Jim Hopper in the Netflix series Stranger Things. The role earned him Emmy Awards in 2017 and 2018, a Screen Actors Guild Award in 2017 and a Golden Globe Award in 2018.
Harbour has been sober since his early 20s after struggling with alcoholism. He was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at the age of 25. Harbour previously dated actress Maria Thayer from 2009 to 2011 and actress Julia Stiles from 2011 to 2015. He began dating singer Lily Allen in 2019. Harbour and Allen tied the knot in 2020 in Las Vegas at a wedding ceremony that was officiated by an Elvis Presley impersonator. They separated in 2024.
