Dawn Richard is a singer, songwriter and actress best known as a member of the girl group Danity Kane. Richard was raised in a musical household and began performing with the New Orleans music group Realiti as a teenager. She went on to attend the University of New Orleans, where she majored in marine biology and minored in marketing, while also dancing professionally for the New Orleans Hornets.
Richard rose to fame in 2005 after being selected by Sean “Diddy” Combs to join Danity Kane on MTV’s Making the Band 3. Following the group’s disbandment in 2009, Richard joined Diddy – Dirty Money alongside Diddy and Kalenna Harper, releasing the album Last Train to Paris in 2010.
As a solo artist, the singer went on to release albums such as Goldenheart (2013), Blackheart (2015), New Breed (2019) and Second Line (2021). Richard filed a lawsuit against Diddy in September 2024 alleging sexual abuse. In May 2025, she testified as a witness in his court trial. Combs denied the allegations in her lawsuit and all allegations in the criminal case, pleading not guilty.
She was previously in a relationship with producer Qwanell “Que” Mosley of Day26, but the pair split in 2009.
