About

Singer-songwriter Hozier (full name Andrew Hozier-Byrne) was born and raised in Wicklow, Ireland, where he participated in school choirs started writing songs at age 15. He was a freshman music student at Trinity College in Dublin when he dropped out. He was denied his request to defer and chose to take an opportunity to record demos rather than take his exams.

Hozier found success with his debut single, “Take Me to Church,” released in September 2013. The music video, which featured a gay couple, went viral and the song steadily climbed the charts for months, reaching No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in December 2014, two months after the release of his self-titled debut album.

He was nominated for Best New Artist at the 2015 Grammy Awards.

He followed his first album with Wasteland, Baby! in March 2019, and his third album, Unreal Unearth, dropped in August 2023. His 2024 single “Too Sweet” was his first-ever No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, but it wasn’t released as part of his album. It dropped on the Unheard EP, which featured songs that didn’t make the cut for Unreal Unearth.

The musician often has A-list stars in his music videos, featuring Saoirse Ronan in “Cherry Wine,” Natalie Dormer in “Someone New” and Anya Taylor-Joy in “Dinner and Diatribes.” He’s also known for collaborating with a wide range of artists across generations and genres, from Noah Kahn and Maren Morris to Barbra Streisand and Mavis Staples.

Hozier and model Hana Mayeda made their red carpet debut as a couple at the Time100 Gala in April 2025.
