Jon Stewart

Jon Stewart (born Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz) is an Emmy-winning comedian and writer best known for hosting The Daily Show. Stewart was raised in New Jersey and graduated from The College of William and Mary in 1984 and began pursuing comedy shortly after.

The Emmy winner got his start doing comedy routines and quickly gained a reputation in the stand-up community, which later landed him a job as a TV writer for Caroline’s Comedy Hour. He went on to host a handful of TV programs, including Short Attention Span Theater and MTV’s You Wrote It, We Watch It.

After appearing on Late Night With David Letterman in 1992, Stewart became a principal player in the comedy world, and the following year he began hosting The Jon Stewart Show. Despite high ratings, the show was canceled in 1995, leading the comedian to pursue other hosting opportunities.

A few years later, the comedian was announced as the new host of The Daily Show and later became both a writer and producer for the program. The show earned Stewart his first Primetime Emmy in 2001 for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Program. He went on to receive many Emmys, including Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series.

Stewart stepped away from hosting The Daily Show in 2015, and his role was passed to comedian Trevor Noah. He later signed a contract with HBO where he produced a number of series, including The Problem with Jon Stewart. He also boasts producing credits on shows such as The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

The comedian announced his return to The Daily Show in 2024 and is set to remain a host until the end of 2025.

He wed actress Tracey Lynn McShane in 2000, and the couple share son Nathan (born in 2004) and daughter Maggie (born in 2006).
