About

Patrick Stewart is an Emmy-nominated English actor best known for his iconic roles in Star Trek: The Next Generation and the X-Men franchise. Stewart developed an early interest in acting and attended the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, where he trained in classical acting, later honing his skills at the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Stewart’s career took off in the 1970s, with notable stage roles that established his name in the theater world. He later made his TV debut, acting on a handful of shows, including a recurring appearance on Maybury from 1981 to 1983. His breakthrough came in 1987 when he was cast as Captain Jean-Luc Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation. This role propelled him into global fame, leading him to play Picard throughout the Star Trek franchise. He also achieved widespread recognition for his portrayal of Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men films, further cementing his status as a pop culture icon.

The actor earned his first Emmy nomination in 1998 for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries for his role in 1998’s Moby Dick. He went on to earn multiple nominations, including for a Golden Globe, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and several other Emmys. He has also starred in critically acclaimed works such as Macbeth (2010) and The Lion in Winter (2003), and his versatility has made him a respected figure in both theater and film.

The U.K. native has also had a prolific voice acting career, lending his talents to projects such as Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012), The Simpsons and American Dad.

In 2025, he was announced as a cast member of Avengers: Doomsday, set to release in 2026.

Stewart was married to Sheila Falconer from 1966 to 1990, and they share children Daniel (born in 1967) and Sophie (born in 1972). He later tied the knot with fellow actress Sunny Ozell in 2013.
