Ricky Martin

Ricky Martin (born Enrique Martín Morales) is a Puerto Rican singer, actor and humanitarian best known for his global hit “Livin’ La Vida Loca” and his role in bringing Latin pop to mainstream audiences. Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Martin began singing at age 6 and began appearing in commercials at age 9. He attended Colegio Sagrado Corazón and later briefly studied at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts before fully committing to his music career.

Martin got his start in the music industry as a member of the Latin boy band Menudo in 1984. He left the group in 1989 and moved to Mexico, where he starred in the telenovela Alcanzar una Estrella II. His solo career took off in the early 1990s with the release of his first album, Ricky Martin, in 1991. He gained international attention following his 1998 World Cup anthem “La Copa de la Vida” and his 1999 performance at the Grammy Awards.

His self-titled English debut included the chart-topping “Livin’ La Vida Loca,” which propelled him to global stardom. He has released multiple albums, including Sound Loaded (2000), Life (2005) and A Quien Quiera Escuchar (2015). As an actor, Martin appeared in General Hospital, played Gianni Versace’s lover Antonio D’Amico in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story and joined the cast of Palm Royale as Robert. He has won multiple Latin Grammy and Grammy Awards, including the Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album.

Martin welcomed twin sons, Matteo and Valentino in 2008, via surrogate. Two years later, he publicly came out as gay. He married Syrian-Swedish painter Jwan Yosef in 2017. The couple later welcomed daughter Lucia (born in 2018) and son Renn (born in 2019). They announced their separation in 2023.
