About

Sean Hayes is an actor and comedian known for his role as Jack McFarland in the NBC comedy series Will & Grace (1998), which earned him an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series in 2001. Raised by a single mother, Hayes grew up with four brothers and supported himself as a classical pianist and as a member of a pop band for five years. He attended Illinois State University, where he majored in performance and orchestral conducting.

Hayes began his professional career in Chicago theater, as musical director at the Pheasant Run Theater, appearing on stage in several productions, including the original production of Role Play at the Organic Theater. He is also an alumnus of the Chicago improvisational comedy group Second City. He also had gigs as a stand-up comic, performing at The Comedy Club in Los Angeles.

His performances on the big screen include Cats & Dogs (2001), The Cat in the Hat (2003), The Bucket List (2007), The Three Stooges (2012) and the animated Monsters University (2013).

In 2014, Hayes married award-winning music composer and producer Scott Icenogle. The couple met around 2006 on The Ellen DeGeneres Show where Icenogle was a DJ.

In early November 2024, Hayes drove himself to the ER because of a heart issue twice in one night. In May 2021, he shared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that he has atrial fibrillation, a type of arrhythmia (irregular heart rhythm).
