Woody Harrelson is an Emmy-winning actor and the brother of actor Brett Harrelson. Woody was raised by his mother in Midland, Texas, and he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in theater arts from Hanover College in 1983.

In 1985, the actor was cast in season 4 of the hit sitcom Cheers. His role as the lovable bartender Woody Boyd won him the 1989 Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series and established him as a breakout star. Following the success of Cheers, he transitioned to film, earning critical acclaim for his performances in White Men Can’t Jump (1992) and Natural Born Killers (1994).

Throughout his career, Harrelson has appeared in a wide range of films, including The People vs. Larry Flynt (1996), which earned him an Academy Award nomination, No Country for Old Men (2007) and The Hunger Games series. He received widespread recognition for his role in True Detective (2014), winning multiple awards for his portrayal of Detective Marty Hart. Some of his later works include War for the Planet of the Apes (2017), Venom (2018) and Last Breath (2025).

Harrelson married Laura Louie in 2008. The couple share three daughters: Deni (born in 1994), Zoe (born in 1996) and Makani (born in 2006).
