Aja Naomi King is an Emmy-nominated actress. King was raised in California and obtained her BFA in acting from the University of California, Santa Barbara before attending Yale University. She graduated with an MFA in drama in 2010 and later moved to New York City to audition for acting roles.

The actress’ first onscreen role came in 2010 when she landed a minor part on the show Blue Bloods. Two years later, she got her big break after signing on to the medical comedy Emily Owens, M.D. The show was canceled after its first season, but King gained high praise for her role before starring on shows such as The Blacklist and Black Box.

King’s notable later works include The Upside (2017) and Scandal. From 2014 to 2020, she joined the cast of How to Get Away With Murder as Michaela Pratt. In 2023, she acted alongside Kate Hudson in the comedy A Little White Lie. She was featured in the drama The Knife the following year.

In 2025, King made her debut as Catherine on NBC’s Grosse Pointe Garden Society.

The California native is also a model and has appeared in Essence, Nylon and Vanity Fair.

She tied the knot with Dan King in 2020, one year before the couple welcomed son Kian.
